My Top 20 Video Game Tattoos: (Part 2)
Our resident video game expert wraps up the countdown of his favorite video game themed tattoos, ranging from classics like Pac-Man and Mario to a few lesser known titles.
10. Pac Man
This is a really unique way to depict a very specific, stylized game character. This one gets my love.
9. Mario
You already knew you were going to see this guy more than once on this list. I once heard that Mario is now more famous than Mickey Mouse internationally. Anyway, the thing I like the most about this is that its done in a beautiful portrait style as opposed to the typical thick lined cartoon style.
8. Multiple Characters – Multiple Games
Okay lets see, this is a hodge podge homage. Yeah I just did that. Ness from Earthbound, Mario specifically from the Paper Mario series, The prince from Katamari Damacy, Atari logo, Dragon ball, a keyblade from the Kingdom hearts series and a triforce from the Legend of Zelda. Yikes.
7. Symbol – Legend of Zelda series
Refer to photo 16 and 11.
6. Power Stars and Nintendo Logo
Simple, cute and a tribute to the most popular game series/company of all time.
5. Boo – Super Mario Brothers
It’s not the art, it’s not the fact that they are Boos. It’s the Bad Boy reference. Love it.
4. Multiple Nintendo Characters
Not only is this a stunning composition, but there are some really cool references most people aren’t aware of. For instance, if you look near his wrist there are some simple black figures. Those little guys are Game and Watch characters. Before the original Nintendo console, these small handheld 2 button LCD games played VERY simple games starring different versions of these characters.
3. Zelda and Link – Wind Waker
Before I actually clicked on this photo to enlarge and study it, I was very sure that this wasn’t a legitimate tattoo. Now that I’ve spent some time looking at the unreal level of detail that went into creating this masterpiece, im embarrassed for doubting this artist. The vibrant colors, the flawless line work and the ability to capture the essence of , in my opinion, the best game in the Zelda franchise, kept this one very close to the top of my list.
2. Sonic, Knuckes, Tails and Robotnik – Sonic Series
The color, the composition, how the flow of the art takes your eye from top to bottom I a seamless journey….i cant say enough about this sleeve.
1. Various Characters from the Mario series
If I would have seen my own pick for #1 on someone else’s list, I would immediately click that little red X in the upper corner of my window. I know, I know…let me explain.
First off kudos to the guy who’s back this is on. I mean this is a MASSIVE piece of art. I have my whole stomach done with video game art but this is…unreal. It’s not just the whole back, it wraps around his love handles, ribs, and up over his shoulders. The dedication and sheer BALLS it would take to put this on your body forever is beyond me.
Second, I realize its not finished. That has NOTHING to do with the potential of this tattoo. I spent hours searching the net for good gaming ink and this , even with it being unfinished, blows everything away. That really says a lot for the artist.
Unfortunately, there are no other photos of the finished piece readily available. BELIEVE ME, I looked. Use your imagination. This is going to be bad ass.
